Profile

In 2007 the German University of Technology, GUtech for short, in Oman, opened with the support of RWTH Aachen. This technical university was established in Oman through the initiative of Sheikh Abdullah al-Salmi and Sheikh Saud Bin Ali al Khalili.

In collaboration with the Omani donors, RWTH Aachen coordinates the setup of the university according to its academic standards. Collaboration between teaching, research, and the regional industry stand at the focus, just as they successfully have at RWTH Aachen.

In WINTER semester 2018, about 2,172 students enrolled in five Bachelor of Science courses of study: Applied Geosciences, Urban Planning and Architectural Design, Applied Information Technology, International Business and Service Management, and Logistics and three Bachelor of Engineering courses of study: Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. GUtech now offers 5 new Master programs: Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Applied Geosciences, Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning, GUtech-WE Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Industrial Production and Manufacturing.

To apply for an exchange at GUtech, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You are regularly enrolled at RWTH Aachen.
  • At the time of application you are in the third semester at least
  • You can reach at least the B1 level in English, which you can prove by a language certificate or your high school diploma. This corresponds to five years of schooling at a high school diploma after the 12th grade and six years of schooling at a high school diploma after the 13th grade.

Numerous RWTH Aachen students have had positive experiences with these when they additionally took a tutorial for one two semesters at GUtech in addition to studies.
